Big Smith Jacket or Carhartt Jacket?

Ok so at school I have this project for one of my classes where I'm out in the woods during the cold seasons. I'm looking for a jacket that will keep me insulated and warm that's also really durable and can handle tough working conditions. I know carhartt makes jackets that are notorious for hard work conditions. But I did find a Big Smith jacket in my closet that I think is made out of the same materials. How does the big smith jacket stand up against carhartt? Should I buy carhartt and give up on the big smith jacket?
